This facility is called, “The Lantern Of Chagrin Valley.” This assisted living facility is a masterpiece in its design and concept. It is located in South Russel Village, Ohio.
Knowing so many senior’s are suffering with dementia, Jean Makesh, the Villages Chief Executive Officer got the brilliant idea to make the home look like a 1930’s village. In this facility seniors get to enjoy a familiar looking environment with its unique design that actually helps cue memories.
In The Bible God tells us very specifically we are to respect and take care of our elders like in, Leviticus 19:32 ‘You shall rise up before the gray headed and honor the aged, and you shall revere your God; I am the LORD. It also says in, 1 Timothy 5:8 And whoever does not provide for relatives and especially family members has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.(1)
Most seniors will tell you they prefer to stay in their own home as long as possible, and the longer a senior can stay there the better it is for them. People need stimulation, and socialization, rather than some impersonal, sterile type of environment. That’s part of why seniors are happier in their own homes with familiar surroundings. However, this facility looks like the welcoming, and cozy little village they have lived in. It is designed to help those with Alzheimer’s to be safe and to thrive. Our seniors are precious, and deserve the best we as a society can give them. Facilities built with these concepts give seniors hope, and a great quality of life, they should be mainstream not a rare thing. Please share this, and hopefully it will inspire others to build more villages like this one so our elders are cherished the way they should be.
