Rich Cushworth, and his wife, Mercedes have lived through the unthinkable. It’s hard to believe their story isn’t out of a nightmarish fiction novel. After having her baby in a hospital in El Salvador, Mercedes noticed the baby the nurse brought her didn’t look the same as the one she delivered. She suspected the baby wasn’t hers even though nurses reassured her it was.
The nagging suspicion stayed on her mind constantly, so Mercedes privately took a DNA test without telling her husband for her own peace of mind. After reading the DNA test result Mercedes found herself collapsed on the floor crying, and speechless. It was some time before she could explain to her husband the baby they loved, and had bonded so strongly with really wasn’t theirs. After all that trauma they were quickly reunited with Moses their biological son, and surrendered Jacob the baby he was switched with to his biological parent’s.
Our heart goes out to both sets of parent’s who are grieving the loss of the baby they each bonded with and grew to love. The babies being dressed just like their biological dad’s at their reunion seems to be a little too awesome to be a coincidence. This story is a great reminder of how a person’s faith in God sustains them through tough times. We like when Rich said that, “God has helped and comforted us through the process, and everything has turned out o.k.” We wish all involved a lifetime of happiness and beautiful memories and pray that God Blesses them all.
