What parent does not want their child to be blessed by God? Read on and find out how we can all be blessed!
A father has such a special role in a child’s life. As the male head of the family, he is in the unique position to influence his child in good ways, or destructive ones. Just by being himself he sends messages by modelling them everyday. Our children learn to imitate what we teach them either love, and responsibility, or abuse and neglect. We all live with the consequences of how each of us are raising our children.
One of the best ways to know you are raising your children properly is by examining whether or not you are teaching, and following the ten commandments.
Christian Fathers have a special responsibility to teach their children the laws of God, especially the 10 Commandments. The Bible says in Deut 11:18 “Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.”
If a parent teaches them to their children we all benefit because they instill morals such as: integrity, security, kindness, respect, humility, loyalty, fidelity, and discipline. God knew what he was doing when he summed them up in these 10 simple laws.
The 10 Commandments
1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2. You shall not make idols.
3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet.
And the greatest commandment of all “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind, and the second is Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Psalm 119
Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD.
Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.
They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.
You have charged us to keep your commandments carefully.
