Susan Pyska like any good mum felt she had to protect her baby, and while pregnant she did not want to take antidepressants. After the baby she also had to cope with debilitating postpartum depression. So she began a newer treatment that was FDA approved in 2008 that a lot of people still do not know about, it’s called TMS, or transcranial magnetic stimulation. It’s usually given to people who haven’t seen improvement from past antidepressant medications, or for some reason like pregnancy cannot take the medications. Susan credits the treatment with saving her, and helping her reclaim her zest, and joy for life.
The treatment uses pulsed magnetic fields to stimulate the specific part of the brain believed to regulate a persons mood. The therapy is done as an outpatient treatment, under the supervision of a psychiatrist, while patients are fully awake, usually 37 minutes everyday for 4 to 6 weeks. It has been reported little to no side effects, and is often covered by health insurance.
Dr Gabriella Centurion MD has been treating people with TMS, and seeing great results. The following video gives more information on the science behind this miraculous treatment that seems so simple, and easy, its almost hard to believe if not seen first hand.
