When Jeff Foxworthy accepted an invitation to have lunch at a homeless shelter he had no idea what a profound and enlightening experience it would lead to. The part where Jeff’s story impacted us viewers the most was when, Wayne a fellow at Jeff’s Bible study shares a story about a love letter written by, Wayne’s deceased mother that she had tucked away in his Bible. When Wayne came to the realization God was intervening to bring him back to Him the story takes a great turn for the better.
How many of us have experienced God reaching out to us in such profound and obvious ways? Our Heavenly Father loves us so much that He will put people in our lives and arrange circumstances that will make us get back on the right path and return to Him. He will chastise and even punish His children to save them because He loves us just like a human parent does and even more so. He does not give up on us, and He wants us to do what is right. The story Jeff tells us about reminded us of this scripture.
Joel 2:13 Rend your hearts, not your garments,
and return to the Lord, your God,
For he is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love,
and relenting in punishment.(1)
Jeff’s friend experienced God’s love calling him back to his father and it was a beautiful thing. As long as you are alive it is never too late to repent and get right with God. When we get right with God things get better in our lives. No matter how badly you have sinned God loves you and He’s waiting for you to return to Him.
Please join us in this prayer: Holy, Almighty God You know my faults and sins better than anyone, I have sinned beyond number and You even know the ones I am not aware of. Lord have mercy on me. I repent, and ask you to please help me to return to You and your Holy ways, and to walk the path You have planned for me. I now realize the plans You have for me are to help me grow in Holiness, so I now surrender to You. Lord please take the reigns and guide me to live for You, to be closer to You and to do Your Will. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen
