It is an unfortunate fact that parent’s sometimes lose track or sight of their kids, and that it can have tragic consequences. A parent can think they have safely tucked their child into bed and the child gets up, gets the door unlocked and wanders off down the street. It happens all the time, like in this case with truck driver, Luis Navarro. Thankfully he pulled over and did the responsible and right thing. I have personally seen a toddler wandering toward a busy street unaware of the danger, other drivers had the chance to stop and nobody else stopped. I was disgusted people didn’t even slow down and she was running toward the road. While driving everyone should be paying attention to what is going on around them, and not be afraid to get involved when it comes to young children and those who are vulnerable.
Luis has said, “I was blessed with that opportunity to do something right.” He definitely did a wise thing by filming the incident to protect himself and the child. The second thing he did right was called the police and reported it. Even though the child seemed to be with it’s family and no harm happened one never knows. Confirmation by police should be done to make sure the child is being handed over to the real parents, and not someone who could be lying and sees an opportunity to kidnap the child. Human trafficking is epidemic and those criminals live among us. Luis has shown the world what a responsible person does in these difficult circumstances and we commend him for his actions.
There is also new technology out called the, “1 Decision Safety Bracelet” as seen in the video below. It notifies a parent when a child has wandered away, after a certain distance the bracelet starts buzzing to notify the parent. We love the idea and it’s easy to see this is going to save precious little lives.
