As someone who has been overweight I know first hand the feelings a person goes through when they think about their self image, and being overweight. I have struggled with both extremes of being overweight, and close to anorexic. There can be a lot of emotions people have to cope with when they are struggling with these issues.
At the core of it all there is always a lot of pain. Rejection, criticism, and bullying are the most hurtful and worst of it. When we are not accepted and loved unconditionally for who we are, that can be so incredibly painful. It sends a horribly wrong message that says, you’re just not good enough. I wish people had a clue how powerful and destructive a force their tongue is! This is what the bible says about the power our words have.
Proverbs 18:20 (NIV) “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
When this news anchor received a hurtful letter from a viewer critiquing her weight and lifestyle. Jennifer tried to laugh it off, and let it go, but everyone rallied around her lovingly supporting her, and taking a stand against the hurtful words. That is exactly what every person struggling with their weight needs Love, Support, Encouragement, Acceptance, Help Motivate with Love and Kindness, don’t patronize or criticize it does not help! The speech she gives is superb, one every person who is struggling with bullying, and their weight would applaud. Bravo Jennifer!
Proverbs 13:3 (NIV) “Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.”
